Day of the Dead Festival Ceramics
Day of the Dead is a festival that originated in Mexico, on November 1 and 2, to remember loved ones who have passed away. Graveyards are decorated, altars (ofrendas) are created and favorite foods are placed lovingly on them to bring the departed home for a visit.
My Day of the Dead ceramics include platters, plates, mugs and bowls. All functional pieces in this collection are handpainted by me, on cast whiteware with foodsafe glazes, fired to 1800 degrees, dishwasher safe and durable.
Sculptural pieces include skull masks and candlarias. These are hand made with white clay, glazed and fired, then hand painted with fired ceramic enamels. I often create custom orders with personal touches for my customers, such as a skull mask with the departed's name on the forehead.

platter has a flared 3" patterned rim.

remember of loved one. Bright bouquets of marigolds, roses and sculpted calla lillies adorn these ceramic skulls, as well as lime green leaves and a confection
rainbow of swirls and dots. The skull edges are fluted like a pie crust and
each has a sturdy wire for hanging. Each skull has two
strands of lampworked glass beads and a metal photo frame charm for your beloved's
picture.
